Engagement Session Along Lake Michigan
I just love surprise proposal stories, and Katie and Dan’s story is really sweet. I can just imagine how nervous Dan must have been and how he must have tried so hard to stay calm and collected. Lucky for them both, they got it on video. A moment in time they will cherish. And, the reason he proposed when he did is absolutely the sweetest. We wish Katie and Dan a lifetime of love and happiness!
Katie & Dan
” Dan & I met a few nights before my best friend’s wedding in October 2012. I had heard lots about this lively “Dan from Denver” from our mutual friends, and his presence indeed lit up the room as soon as he arrived. The wedding weekend was, of course, busy, but he seemed always to be around keeping everyone laughing. I was in graduate school in Chicago, and he returned to Denver, but we kept in touch after the wedding. A month later, he was in town for work, and we went on our first date. Three weeks after, he spent Christmas with my family and a month after that he moved to Chicago so we could be together!
Fast forward to April 2015 when we headed to Naples, Florida to visit my ailing grandmother (who Dan had not met). Our first morning in town, Dan suggested taking a walk on the beach to shake the Chicago winter off of us before my parents picked us up to head to my grandma’s house. We walked down the Naples beach, sat down, and I started pushing to head to breakfast. Dan wanted to keep walking. Finally, at a very quiet spot, he asked a young lady to take our picture on the beach. He was very specific on which side he stood on, as I thought, “We need to get some food. Since when does he have a side for pictures!?” A few pictures were snapped, and he asked her for one more. When I stepped back to pose for the photo, he wasn’t next to me; he was down on one knee. Our sweet young photographer caught the whole thing on video! My head was spinning with the beautiful ring on my left hand. At breakfast, Dan told me, “I wanted to be introduced to your grandma as your fiance” and then my heart melted. We spent the rest of the day celebrating with my parents and my grandma, who got to enjoy champagne with my fiance. While my grandma will only be with us in spirit at the wedding, I couldn’t be happier that one of my last memories with her was such an incredible day. “
