Basilica Hudson Wedding

Basilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingFrom Brooke, the bride: Jon & I had been together for more than 6 years and so, it was no surprise that he would be proposing sometime soon. I LOVE surprises, and was terribly nervous that I would figure it out because I’m (usually) really good at that sort of thing.

Basilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingOne day when surfing the web, I stumbled upon Basilica Hudson, a reclaimed 19th century factory in the Hudson Valley that had been converted into an art and performance space. What a unique spot for my (someday) wedding! The space has a seriously epic main hall (a’hem dance party) and a pretty amazing theater filled with mismatched vintage chairs (ceremony, clearly). I showed my best friend who insisted we have a ladies-only road trip to go visit it. I lied to Jon about our destination and hopped in the car with her 2 weekends later. Basilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingWe had a great day exploring the town of Hudson and eventually arrived at Basilica, where their event coordinator had agreed to show us around. It was winter time and the building had no heat so it was freeeeezing cold but we took a tour with her and asked some standard Q’s. I was getting lost in my own head, imagining my future wedding here and soon I spotted the arched entrance into the theater and I made my way across the hall to check it out. Well who do you think I saw sitting right there in the middle of the room? It was Jon! It took me a minute to realize what was happening, but before I knew it he was down on one knee. I have no idea what he said because I thought I was going to throw up. But supposedly he proposed and I said yes!

Early on in the planning craziness, I would find myself torn about what sort of “theme” our wedding was going to fit into. Was it vintage? rustic? modern? HELP! But eventually I realized the only way I could plan my wedding was to say “screw it” and just put all of our very favorite things in one big room together: glitter, whiskey, donuts, hip-hop, pork chops, painted branches, kraft paper, champagne fountains, confetti, edison bulbs, sequins, an epic dance party & red velvet cake. Basilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingIt was the best day of our lives and our guests had a BLAST. We took the DIY route with nearly everything (I even made my own wedding cake), and chose our vendors based on the integrity of
their work. It was a TON of work but I would do it again in a heartbeat. It all felt incredibly genuine and seeing it come together on the day of the wedding was completely overwhelming. My brother performed the ceremony, and at the end of it I was married to my very best friend. Getting to share that moment with our favorite people would have been spectacular in any setting, but getting to do it in the exact spot Jon had proposed to me only 9 months earlier made it even better. Basilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingBasilica Hudson WeddingPhotographer and Photobooth: Isabelle Selby Photography | Wedding Venue: Basilica Hudson | Invitation and Paper Goods: DIY by Brooke (the bride) | Wedding Dress: Augusta Jones | Hair and Makeup: DIY by Brooke | Bride’s Veil: Fascinating Creations on Etsy | Bride’s Earrings: Mashugana on Etsy | Bride’s Ring: Eidel Precious on Etsy | Brides’s shoes: Nine West | Groom’s Suit: Ben Sherman | Groomsmen ties: ASOS | Groom’s shoes: Cole Haan | Groom’s Ring: Bario Neal | Rentals: Columbia Tent | Catering: Swoon Kitchen Bar | DJ: DJ Gatsby | Flowers: DIY by Brooke and Hudson Valley Ceremonies | Videographer: Mint Wedding Cinematography | Lighting: DIY by bride | Wedding Coordinator: Jeanne Stark of Hudson Valley Ceremonies | Donuts: Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop | Wedding Cake: DIY by Brooke
