Something Borrowed by cotton + clover photography
As little girls, we grow up wanting to wear mom’s wedding dress on our own big day. This is a sweet idea but despite the “Something Borrowed” tradition it doesn’t always seem like the best idea. This beautiful bride wanted to honor her parents and surprise her mother by wearing her mom’s wedding dress. The way she did it was the perfect compromise and really awesome.
From the photographers: Maegan & Seneca met while they were both working at St. Vincent’s hospital. After dating and going on many adventures together all over the world, (the words “you’re my greatest adventure” was engraved inside of Seneca’s ring.) Seneca proposed to Maegan while they were taking an evening boat ride in the gondolas of Italy!
Maegan and Seneca were married in June of 2014 along the Sandestin beaches. As the day began, Maegan told us that she had a surprise for her mother… she had tracked down her mother’s borrowed wedding dress and would wear it during the send-off!! We squealed with excitement and couldn’t wait to see her sweet mother’s face at the end of the night. We took the dress to a “secret” location and away from everyone while mom helped put the finishing touches on everything.
Seneca’s father was his best man and had made a heartfelt toast the night before at the rehearsal dinner. We could see how he and his wife were so incredibly proud of their son as they helped him pin his boutonniere just moments before he saw his bride for the first time during their intimate first look.
At the end of the night, Maegan quickly changed into her mother’s wedding gown and her family and friends gathered outside of the door. Her mother’s face was absolutely priceless!!!
