Tappan Hill Wedding
From the Bride: In a few words, how did you and your husband meet?
My husband and I have know each other since we were 13. We both worked at Mahopac Video in middle school, but never spoke. We also graduated from high school together, but we never spoke a word to each other there either. We both ended up living and working in the city and met through mutual friends. We have been inseparable ever since!
What was the central design theme and/or colors of your wedding — and why?
The colors of the wedding were mint green and coral. The inspiration for the colors and flowers actually came from a cover of the book “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This was my favorite book as a child and I remembered the mint green cover with coral and pink roses that decorated the border. Tappan Hill also has a secret garden feel to it.
What was the most personal and/or memorable aspect of your wedding?
I loved our ceremony. David and I wrote our own vows. For a reading, my aunt read an old love letter that my grandfather had written my grandmother. I walked down the aisle to David and my song. One of my favorite parts of our wedding was in lieu of favors we gave a donation in each guest’s name to Heavenly Angels Animal Rescue in Ozone Park Queens. This is where we rescued our dog, Shea. Everything stood out to me as special that day. All of our vendors were amazing especially our photographer, Sarah Tew, who captured so many beautiful moments.
From the Photographer, Sarah Tew:
I knew when I met Jaime that her wedding would be sweet and vibrant, just like she is– sure enough this beautiful day at Tappan Hill Mansion was filled with cheerful excitement, pretty pinks hues, and laughter with friends and family. We arrived early to scout the location and I found some sweet spots up on a balcony that worked well and got excited about shots I could do in the circular lobby and in the front door frame (check out my favorites below!). Of course for the group shots we had to use the view from the ceremony site, it was so lovely to look out at the water in the distance. After a sweet ceremomy performed by a family friend, we all headed back into the mansion for their party. Highlights of this wedding included a moving love letter that arrived over email during preparation and which Jaime had her MOH read to her aloud out of nerves (um, Dave, you rule!)– as well as some pretty great toasts from Jaime’s best friend and a tag team of Dave’s brothers, and last but not least the VERY inspired dance floor action– this couple can seriously shake it! I was able to steal them outside for a few more portraits when the sun was setting and I love what we got. Congratulations, Jaime & Dave!
